Face Reality or Live In Illusions
by Rusi
What you see around you is not always what it seems to be. Many of the ideals and socially accepted behavior and morals are no different than a bunch of fake boobs. I'm not sure if people realize that almost everything is kinda made up and misleading - movies are fake, music (lyrics) can be fake, commercials are fake, PR generated information is fake, news are fake, sports are also fake (corruption)...etc. I know all of this is a public secret but not that many people actively think about it.
Movie stars such as Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Wesley Snipes...you see acting all tough, rude, gangsta and what not are nothing but actors and have nothing to do in real life with the personages they play in movies.
However not everybody realizes this.
You see people going nuts on Al Pacino but he is nothing special to say the least. He is not better than you or me. He is just a good actor. He is also no gangsta....hell no. In fact I would bet a lot of money that real mafia laughs at his face.
However not everybody realizes this.
All of this is one of the many reasons people live with illusions. We try to live in our minds, like life is a movie. Our reactions, expectations and general views are strongly influenced by what we see on the screen. The main reason for that is the fact that each movie is presented as a larger than life piece of time. Of course there is no other way around it because the goal of each project is to attract people. You can't attract people unless you present an original unseen before story..etc. Problem is we expect it to happen in real life even if we don't admit it. This phenomenon is present since we are kids - we all wanted to be Batman, Spiderman, Hulk and what not because we saw it in a movie.
It seems that people don't think life is good enough and they tend to make up stuff like: Santa, God, Jesus Christ, ghosts and to some point even love. I'm not saying that love does not exist. It does. Certainly. But it's not what you see in a movie. Not even close. However the media has successfully manipulated us that we should act in a certain way when it comes to love. Marriage comes first to mind. Getting married is nothing special. Actually I will even say it's detrimental because when a couple is married they start to take each other for granted. The very same way you forget how “nice” it feels to travel on the bus when you have a brand new Ferrari. At the same time you see all those happy get married quick stories and expect it to happen the same way in your life. It won't for the very same reason there is no Santa or God. If you have a problem with this talk to nature not me.
When you live your whole life surrounded by fake images there is a very good chance that sense of reality will be lost. I'm not against positive feeling or having dreams - I'm against pipe dreams and wasting your time aspiring for something that's impossible in the first place. The celebrities you see on TV are not happy. Maybe they are happier than you and me because they don't have to count each penny they make and are free in that sense but still they are human beings - they get sick, they love, they hate, they suffer, they cry, they laugh, they get tired, they sleep, they make mistakes...and yes they use make-up.
Keeping sense of reality is extremely important. I honestly think imagination is overrated or should I say misunderstood. Imagination means originality and originality comes from origin, root. The root to our-selves cannot be found in a movie, TV show, fake behavior, socially imposed virtues and beliefs. It can only be found the very same place you will never look - you. What comes to you naturally is your originality.
