The Truth: Why So Many People Smoke
by Rusi
There are millions of smokers out there and most of them are aware of the negative effects caused by the cigarettes usage. However nobody stops. The tobacco products are a perfect example of one of the biggest human weaknesses - creating a fake image of oneself.
The reason why most people smoke is that they cannot except a part of themselves and try to hide their problem by smoking. When you see bad gangsters and famous actors smoking on the TV there is a pretty good chance that many people will decide to “try it” because they are “stress out”. In reality the very same people just want to escape from the reality by imitating the passionate heroes they see in the movies. Yes, it's that simple.
I can tell you how Brad Pit can make a few millions right away - smoke in a gangsta movie. Cigarette companies will pay millions for this advertisement. This is whythe industry continues to exist despite the fact that the tobacco smoking is most likely among the most powerful killers out there.
Most of the cigarettes will have carefully designed labels which try to make the client feel hungry for adventures and since you don't have enough money to by a new car you buy a cigarette pack in order to fill that need for speed. Currently there are almost no cigarette commercials but there were quite a few in the past. Most commercial have one single goal - make customers feel bad and uncomfortable.
"Bro. What you mean they try to make the customer feel uncomfortable?"
It's pretty simple and I will try to explain it to you with a quote from the movie Roger Dodger where the uncle of the main character is a commercial writer. Here is an excerpt from a dialogue between them.
A:Really? Like, what do you do all day?
B:What do I do all day?
A:I sit here and think of ways to make people feel bad.
B:I thought you wrote for commercials.
A:I do... but you can't sell a product without fiirst making people feel bad.
B:Why not?
A:Because it's a substitution game.
B:You have to remind them that they're missing something from their lives.
Everyone's missing something, right?
A:Well, yeah. I guess.
B:Trust me.
A:And when they're feeling suffiiciently incomplete...
you convince them that your product is the only thing that can fill the void.
So, instead of taking steps to deal with their lives...
instead of working to root out the real reason for their misery...they run out and buy a stupid-looking pair of cargo pants.
B:So... is it fun? - It can be.
As you can see cigarettes are sold on the exact same principle. Make people believe that they can get closer to what they want by smoking.
Also smoking is a perfect example of double standards because it's almost like legalized drug business. I have a second job as media monitoring assistant and part of my duties is to translate cigarette related articles from online and print media sources. What amazes me the most is when some CEO of a cigarette company says something like: “Our company is doing a great job. We have increased our sales by ...%.” What he really says is: “Our company is selling even more crap to regular people. Making them feel miserable and taking a lot of their money. We are getting even better at that.”
Like I said it's almost a legalized drug business except that the main boss is the state or the company allowed to sell poison. However since obviously the side effects of hard drugs show faster and are much more deadly the government and the society in general does not find the situation as worse.
“Ok. Bro but I'm going to die anyway. Why should I stop smoking. Live for the moment.”
First of all this is an extremely stupid logic and you might just as well kill yourself since you are going to die anyway. Why not save some time for heaven? GTFO!
Is smoking such a great experience really? What we are talking about here is breathing smoke and exhaling it. Is it that much of a pleasure? Especially at that cost? Also most people including you don't actually understand the idea behind:” Live for the moment.” It does not mean that you should do stupid stuff and make yourself ill. You should explore and take chances to develop your inner strengths and reach the full potential you were born with rather than making yourself look like a tough boy because you smoke . Come on man. Get some self-respect and throw the cigarette at the face of the fat fuck selling it to you.
"Ok. Bro but my parents are 99 years old and still smoking. Smoking is probably not that harmful. Fuck you. I want to smoke. U MAD?"
Bro! I'm not even mad. I also don't care that your parents are walking zombies despite the fact that they still smoke. I'm not going to write a lecture about how harmful it is because I know that you can die at 18 without ever touching a cigarette and be alive to tell about the first James Bond movie despite smoking for 50 years. What I want you to understand is that if you quit smoking your life will become better right away. U MAD ?
